Second Tree - Planting Second Chances!

Thanks to my Instagram acoount @Lily4Refugees I was contacted by this wonderful non-profit organization to bring awareness about their support for refugees! It is one of the most informative accounts and with every single post and their #RefugeesArePeople, they truly speak from my heart. It’s like they are using my voice 4 the voiceless. If you care about refugees' future integration and education as I do, please follow SecondTree.org @second.tree and make a donation on their website! Every little amount helps. Thank you.

THEIR STORY

Second Tree is a community-led, volunteer-run, grassroots NGO that supports, teaches and learns with refugees across Northern Greece. Their founders were volunteers that independently responded to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in early 2016. They met in Katsikas Refugee Camp and left their old lives to build an organisation that first and foremost treats refugees like people. Since then, their team of volunteers has grown and they have reached hundreds of refugees through their programs. They work in two camps reaching approximately 2,500 people.

Their WORK is EVOLVED IN THREE KEY AREAS:

LANGUAGE LEARNING Through English and Greek classes delivered by qualified teachers. Both programs are approved by the Greek Ministry of Education.

YOUTH WELL-BEING Through our Scouts program that takes children out of the camp and into local community.

INTEGRATION of refugees into local life through our community-building activities.

their MISSION

Is to empower individuals with the skills needed to engage in their new community by providing them with access to information, services, and opportunities that strengthen their capacities and ensure that their rights are realised.

Their VISION

Themy aim to create a society in which fundamental rights, equitable access to resources and services, and a healthy environment are granted to all and everyone. A society in which all individuals are provided with the tools needed to progress their lives in safety and with dignity.

SECOND TREE takes its name from the following proverb: “The best  time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second-best time is now.” Our belief is that it is never too late to take action and work towards making a positive difference in the world.
