Creativity allows us to view and solve problems. It opens our minds. Especially in difficult and lonely time’s creativity is the best self-therapy and healing solutions for our heart, mind, and soul. Creativity is the ability to generate, create, or discover new ideas, solutions, and possibilities. During this horrible global pandemic crisis, everyone was challenged in one or another way, which gave me the idea to feature a few creative guests in my summer blog series Corona & Creativity.
My next guest in my blog series 2021 is the lovely and talented hobby baker Mimi. She and her sister Betul have actually won the title "Best hobby baker duo in Switzerland 2021" in spring. The talented sisters took part in the baking show "zuckersüss und bitterzart", which is similar to “The Great British Bake off” in UK and “Das grosse Backen“ in Germany.
First of all, thank you for being my blog guest. Mimi, what means creativity to you?
For me, creativity is all-encompassing. It can be experienced in every area of life, whether professional or private. For me, creativity can be lived out with all senses as long as the person is free in thinking and doing. When he or she can creatively transform his or her thoughts into actions, this triggers an inner satisfaction.
What is your favorite creative activity?
Baking, Cooking, Tailoring, Painting, Handicrafts, Make up
Wow, lots of creative fields. What is your favorite color?
I do not have a favorite color. It gives me pleasure to combine the colors. I prefer to work with light colors in pastel shades.
Tell me did you discover a creative activity or new passion during the corona Lockdown? What exactly?
During the Corona Lockdown, I had a lot of time to try new things, like testing different flavors or learning the craft with new tools. This time helped me a lot to expand and become more efficient with my creative studio Mimi's Backliebe.
Wow! How wonderful. Do you think creative people are happier in general?
Basically, I think that all people can be happy regardless of creativity. I have the feeling that there is creativity slumbering in every human being. If this creativity and passion can be lived out, it certainly results in an increased sense of happiness.
Would you say creativity is kind of a self-therapy?
Yes, definitely. While I am living my creativity, I live in the moment and I am more aware of myself. That's why I think creativity can be a kind of self-therapy.
And would you also say that creative people are more driven and disciplined?
I find that creative people are definitely doers, but for me, this is not synonymous with discipline. Creative people can easily get distracted by the many thoughts and thus quickly lose the thread.
The meaning of “Creativity” is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness! Creativity is going beyond the usual, stepping outside of the box. It can be defined in many ways, such as how a person explores ideas or uses different ways to solve issues and how one experiences life. So what was your original idea or what did you create during lockdown?
During the lockdown, my husband was on short-time work and home office and was, therefore, able to take on more of the child-rearing. Therefore, I was able to set up my creative studio efficiently.
I noticed that during the lockdown, clients had more unusual ideas. For me, it is important that I can implement any idea without limits. Special ideas were, for example, a cake on the theme of vaccination or other cakes with black humor. The fact that I was able to make people happy during this dreary time was my motivation. The laughter of children and adults due to my cakes and creations drove me to develop my works further and further.
While you may have natural creativity skills, there are also skills that can be learned and developed over time. Would you say your creative skills are natural or trained?
I would say that my creative skills are rather natural. I've only been baking for two years and I taught myself everything on my own without taking a course. Of course, I did a lot of research and for that, I thank many bloggers and Youtubers where I got valuable tips.
A new study from researchers has found that women are engaged in creative fields like art, music, and literature at higher rates than men and are generally more creative than men. What is your thought on that?
As I mentioned above, I think that there is creativity in every human being. Perhaps it is also a social problem that the man is often seen as the breadwinner of the family and therefore cannot live out his creativity freely.
Mimi, do you think being creative and productive is also related to season? For example are you more creative in the summer or in winter?
Creativity cannot be limited to one season. I am a very positive person and see beauty in every season. In autumn the colorful leaves, in winter the cool tones of nature, in spring the blossoming of flowers, and in summer the warmth. I think you can be wonderfully creative in every season.
Mimi find creative words to describe yourself to my blog visitors.
Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to live out my creativity and therefore decided to make an apprenticeship as a dressmaker. Afterwards I was able to graduate as a theatre dressmaker and worked in this field until the birth of my daughter in 2018. I love my family life and the new wonderful challenges with raising my daughter. However, I always had the desire to live out my creativity despite my new role as a mother.
When I couldn't make up my mind in the summer of 2019 and was then finally too late to order a cake for my daughter's first birthday, I decided to unpack my baking supplies and make the cake myself according to my taste and appearance. All the guests at the party were completely thrilled with my creation.
From then on, I was hooked on baking and my cakes were increasingly requested by people around me. A hobby turned into my own little creative business - Mimi's Backliebe! I love to create various shapes and figures out of sugar mass and since then I have put a smile on my customers' faces. Imagination knows no bounds with me and every wish will be fulfilled.
Despite my only short baking experience, I was already allowed to take part in the baking show "zuckersüss und bitterzart" with my sister Betul in spring 2021. My sister also loves to bake and together we won the title of "Best hobby baker duo in Switzerland 2021". We are very proud of that.
What an amazing journey and experience. You definitely should be proud of your masterwork and masterpieces. The cakes you create look absolutely stunning and delicious. Thank you so much for being my blog guest and best of luck with all your creative activities and projects.
