Country: USA
Today I
like to introduce Author Cindy J. Smith. She grew up in
the country of Upstate New York and now resides in the boonies of Midwestern
Indiana. She is a coffee-addicted truck driver (as if there was any other kind,
she points out). Cindy has written poetry all her life. The topics and poems
just come into her head. She tries to write in the first person for most of
them. She does that as people are more apt to relate to something when they are
not feeling like they are the target. Some of her poems are true, either for her
or for someone she knows. Cindy believes in magic and that life is worth living. She
hopes that her words will touch every reader in some way. She wants everyone to
open their eyes and really see what is before them.
Who am I she asks? This is Cindy's answer: Well, I am a poet and originally
from Avon, NY. I live in Indiana now with my husband. I'm an older person, not
quite as old as dirt. As far back as I can remember, I have written poetry, and
with every experience in life, I've found inspiration. (I really just write
what the voices in my head tell me to write.) Never having been good at playing
the part of "starving artist", I've had many careers, but my current
one, an over-the-road truck driver with my husband Dave, has provided amazing
opportunities for inspiration in these later years. I have published 4 of my
own poetry books; Voices In My Head, They Won't Shut Up, Rhymes Through Time
and Words On The Wind. My children's book Caesar and the Bluebells is currently
being re illustrated. More of my poems appear in six anthologies as well as
several books by fellow authors.
Cindy tell me what is your "masterpiece" so far?
Choosing a "Master Piece" was difficult. I took Lily's advice and slept on it. My choice is "Voices In My Head". It is the first book I published and I did it in honor of my daughter. She had always wanted me to publish my poetry. This book, dedicated to her, has poems that touch all different aspects of life. I deal with my love for my daughter, the anguish of losing her, the beauty of nature, holiday celebrations and just sarcasm.

When did you first start writing?
Was being a writer something you always aspired to be?
Was being a writer something you always aspired to be?
I have been
writing poetry all my life. My sister
tells stories of how at the age of 3 I would add verses to the Mother Goose and
Dr. Seuss rhymes because I did not think they were finished. Writing is something I have to do, but being
a published author was never something I aspired to be.
What would you like to achieve as an Author Cindy?
As an
author, I would like to help readers find themselves and see the world from
every angle. In order to achieve peace on earth, we need to take off our
blinders and see everything around us.
Open our minds and hearts and let our souls free.
What is your best advice based on your own
experiences so far to other Authors?
Treat other
authors how you want to be treated. If
you don't share, read and review, don't expect other authors to do it for you.
Cindy what genres do you read and review to support
your fellow Authors?
I will read
and review almost anything. I prefer
horror or mystery/crime. I do not really
like romance, western nor erotica, but if an author asks and I think the plot
sounds good, I will read them.
A quote by you or your Life motto?
Be
yourself, because those that mind don't matter and those that matter don't
mind!
Thank you Cindy. I like your quote. I wish you the best of luck with your writing. Keep up the great work and best wishes, Lily
